GOVERNMENT RELATIONS FOR LEGAL PROFESSIONALS

Course Objectives

This course is designed to introduce you to the skills and knowledge necessary to gain a basic understanding of GR and lobbying and to navigate the complex GR landscape in Russia. In addition to a general approach to GR activities, the course examines in detail the specifics of communications with government agencies in an industry context. The course also integrates such current topics as GR in EAEU.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Analyze the structure and decision-making processes in Russian government bodies to effectively plan GR strategies.
  • Create key GR materials: analytical notes, positions, stakeholder maps.
  • Develop basic GR communications plans, including stakeholder identification, goal setting, and selection of engagement tools.
  • Understand the industry-specific features of communications with government agencies in certain sectors of the economy.
  • Understand the specifics of GR practices in EAEU.

Readings

Reading materials will be made available via Moodle prior to each class. 
All materials will be posted by the end of January. 
No textbooks are required for purchase.

Attendance and Course Completion

To pass the course, participants must attend at least 6 of the 7 classes. Excessive tardiness may be counted as an absence.
One excused absence may be granted with prior written permission from Evgeny Roshkov. 
In such cases, participants may be required to complete an additional written or online assignment to make up for missed class content. The course may include short online quizzes or brief individual or group assignments. 
Any such requirements will be communicated to participants in advance.

Course Length

14 clock hours (7 classes of 2 hours, one class per week).

Zoom Policy

Cameras should be on during class unless you are moving or otherwise in a distracting location. If your camera must be off due to your location or a likely poor connection, please try to inform in advance. If you are having trouble connecting, please inform the course group.
